MIGHT I EXPECT DURING TAI CHI CLASS?
- Tuesday: Typically begins with stretching, warm up, and strengthening exercises. Everyone does the most simple tai chi form together (12 Form). Next, new students join novice students for instruction while intermediate and advanced students practice tai chi forms. In the last portion of class new, novice, and intermediate students practice on their own while advanced students receive instruction in push hands and tai chi sword.
- Saturday: New and novice students receive individual or small group instruction while intermediate and advanced students practice tai chi forms. Saturday tai chi is preceded by qigong class and most students attend both classes.
WHAT MIGHT I EXPECT DURING QIGONG CLASS?
- Thursday: Multiple forms of qigong are practiced each week. The main form is a sitting qigong meditation that is about forty-five minutes long. Grandmaster Cheng guides the meditation while calming music plays softly. Students sit in chairs or on cushions on the floor. Everyone brings something to cover their legs during qigong to ensure that the legs and feet remain warm. Standing and moving qiqong supplement sitting qigong. Class concludes with instruction in how to apply the traditional Chinese health culture to promote a healthy lifestyle. When this class ends insruction open only to intermediate advanced students occurs.
- Saturday: The same sitting, standing, and moving qigong forms learned on Thursday are practiced. Saturday qigong is followed by tai chi class and most students attend both classes.
WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR CLASS?
Come a few minutes before class is scheduled to start.WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO CLASS?
Wear loose clothing and comfortable, flat shoes for both qigong and tai chi (taiji quan). Students should not participate in bare feet.HOW OFTEN SHOULD I ATTEND CLASS?
Most beginning students attend one class per week. Learning is more effective if you attend twice a week. The most dedicated students attend three times a week.
